Curriculum & Instruction

The South Brunswick School District lives its mission statement: To prepare students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, effective communicators and wise decision makers. This will be accomplished through the use of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) and/or the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) at all grade levels. The schools will maintain an environment that promotes intellectual challenge, creativity, social and emotional growth and the healthy physical development of each student.

Curriculum and Program Review Cycle

When New Jersey adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA), these standards became the foundation upon which all districts in the State built their curriculum. The most recent review and revision of the standards occurred in 2014 to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and all South Brunswick curriculum has been aligned accordingly since August 2016.

The PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) Test is the State-selected set of tests that assess student progress toward achievement of the standards. The test is completely aligned with the NJSLS.

The link below, provided by the New Jersey Department of Education, will connect you to a few State resources that will provide further insight into the NJSLS. In addition, please see how our district implements other State mandated requirements.
