Curriculum & Instruction Department

The South Brunswick School District lives its mission statement: To prepare students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, effective communicators and wise decision makers. This will be accomplished through the use of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) and/or the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) at all grade levels. The schools will maintain an environment that promotes intellectual challenge, creativity, social and emotional growth and the healthy physical development of each student.

Common Core State Standards
When New Jersey adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA), these standards became the foundation upon which all districts in the State built their curriculum.

South Brunswick’s Mathematics curriculum was developed in alignment with these standards in 2011 (for elementary and high school) and 2012 (for middle school), and the ELA curriculum K-12 was developed in alignment with these standards in 2012.

The NJASK and HSPA tests (which have been transitioning toward the CCSS for the past two years) have been the State assessments of standards up until this point. The PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) Test is the new, State-selected set of tests that will assess student progress toward achievement of the standards. The test is completely aligned with the CCSS.

The links below, provided by the New Jersey Department of Education, will connect you to a few State resources that will provide further insight into the CCSS.
