Mentoring

South Brunswick School District has developed a two-year mentoring program to support new educators - whether they are new to the profession or new to the district.

During Year 1, new teachers are assigned a traditional or building-based mentor depending on their certification, experience and needs. The mentor meets with and supports the new staff member as outlined in the plan below. In addition to this one-on-one support, regular district trainings are held on various topics to further both mentors’ and mentees’ growth throughout the year.

During Year 2, the mentoring support shifts from a one-on-one model to an optional cohort model rooted in reflection to focus on the new teachers’ instructional practices. The cohort receives an initial training in August, and then meets regularly throughout the year.
