Instrumental Performing Groups Our Instrumental Music Performing groups at Crossroads are designed to challenge our young musicians at many different levels. We provide instruction as well as ensemble and performance opportunities. Our students experience a sense of pride, a sense of accomplishment and a sense of belonging. This design is the impetus of each of our performing groups. Also, each of the groups listed below will perform in the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and at the Music In The Parks Festival in Hershey, Pa. Each band member receives a 40 minute group music lesson approximently once a week (please see this brochure under "Music Lessons"). Progress is monitored at rehearsals and lessons and each student must earn the privilege to perform in concerts and festivals. Attendance at all band rehearsals is mandatory. Transportation is provided by the South Brunswick Board of Ed for a fee. All ensemble that meet before school require a $75.00 Pay-to-Participate fee which can be paid online HERE. An Instrumental Grade is the average of music lesson, formal assessment and rehearsal grade and will appear on your child's Report Card. Concert Bands

Concert Band and Symphonic Band
The Concert Bands are performing organizations that meet before school on days to be designated in the fall. Our goal for the Concert Bands is to expand the technical knowledge and ability of each individual member as well as to increase music reading skills and to build a higher level of sophistication into each performance. They will explore and grow in the skill areas of technique, articulation, phrasing, and rhythm. Orchestra

Concert Strings and Symphonic Strings
The Orchestras are performing organizations that meet before school on days to be designated in the fall. The group performs traditional middle school orchestra literature both in string orchestra and full orchestra settings. Our goal for our orchestra members is to expand the technical knowledge and ability of each individual player as well as to increase music reading skills and to build a higher level of sophistication into each performance. Jazz Bands

Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band
The Jazz Bands are the most featured instrumental music groups here at Crossroads. Students must audition to become members of these organizations. The jazz bands meet before school on days designated in the fall. Membership in one of the concert bands or orchestra is mandatory. In addition to the performances listed under Performing Groups, the Jazz Band performs twice annually at the South Brunswick Senior Center, in Middle School and High School Jazz Band festivals throughout New Jersey and has performed at Board of Education meetings and other meetings celebrating the successes of our school district. Treble Choir, Concert Choir and Vocal Ensemble
Our Vocal Music Performing groups at Crossroads are designed to challenge our young musicians at many different levels. We provide instruction as well as ensemble and performance opportunities. Our students experience a sense of pride, a sense of accomplishment and a sense of belonging. Also, each of the groups listed above and below, with the exception of the Handbell Choir, will perform in the Winter Concert, Spring Concert and at the Music In The Parks Festival in June. Progress is monitored at rehearsals and lessons and each student must earn the privilege to perform in concerts and festivals. Attendance at all choir rehearsals is mandatory. Student will receive a grade on their report card that is an average of music lesson grades and rehearsal grades. Students must audition to become members of Vocal Ensemble which meets before school on days to be designated in the fall.Handbell Choir In addition to the opportunities students have in their general music class, there is also a performing group for handbells. The group meets one day a week after school on a day to be designated in the fall. This group is a select ensemble and is determined by the instructor. The group performs at the both the Winter and Spring concerts. The goal is to expand the musical repertoire for students who are interested in other aspects of music.
