2008 - 2009 South School Year In Review

In September, we welcomed two student teachers from The College of New Jersey, Mr. Jason Patti and Mr. Andrew Newcomer. We also welcomed 525 students into our instrumental music program. Music lessons and before school rehearsals were in full swing!

In December, music students performed their winter musical selections in two separate concerts for both the South Brunswick and Crossroads South communities. 8th graders Stephanie Zheng, Emily Ezzo and Steven Krier received the Westminster Conservatory of Music scholarships. We had our Blue Mountain candle sale and distributed 1,210 candles.

In January, Anna Sayanagi, from The College of New Jersey, joined us as a student teacher. The Jazz Band received the rating of “Outstanding” at the Nottingham High School Jazz Band Festival.

February saw 911 pizza kits and other goods delivered to Crossroads and a team of Music Parents distributed them to their rightful owners.

The production of Anything Goes took place in March with an all middle school cast and pit orchestra. You had to see it to believe it! Also in March, the Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble performed in the Princeton Jazz Band Festival. The Jazz Ensemble received a rating of “Outstanding.” The Jazz Band received a “Superior” rating, the Best Saxophone Section award and the Dr. Anthony Biancosino Sight-Reading Award.

In May, the Vocal Ensemble performed in the New Jersey Middle School Choral Festival at Rutgers University and received a rating of Superior.

On May 29-30, we took 10 buses and an entourage of 490 students, teachers and chaperones to our annual junket to Hershey Park with the results las follows:

Our ten performing groups were winners in every way!

On June 3, 2009, we presented our Annual Spring Concert and on June 4 as the Choirs and Strings presented their Spring Concert in the South Brunswick High School auditorium.
