2006 - 2007 South School Year In Review

In September, we welcomed two student teachers from The College of New Jersey, Mr. AJ Falisi and Mr. Ryan Hewitt. We also welcomed 550 students into our instrumental music program. Music lessons and before school rehearsals were in full swing!

In December, music students performed their winter musical selections in two separate concerts for both the South Brunswick and Crossroads South communities. 6th graders Devan Naik and Arjun Bakre and 8th grader Amber Brown received the Westminster Conservatory of Music scholarships. We had our Blue Mountain candle sale and distributed 1,203 candles.

In January, Mr. Craig Stanton joined us from The College of New Jersey. The Jazz Band received the rating of “Superior” at the Nottingham High School Jazz Band Festival. Gopal Govindraj was selected as outstanding soloist. Rachel Cusumano successfully auditioned for the Central Jersey Region II Band.

February saw 1,210 pizza kits delivered to Crossroads South and a team of Music Parents distributed all of them to their rightful owners.

The production of South Pacific took place in March with an all middle school cast and pit orchestra. You had to see it to believe it! The show was also performed for the South Brunswick Senior Citizens in the Senior Outreach Program. Also in March, the Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble performed in the Steinert Jazz Band Festival. The Jazz Ensemble received a rating of “Excellent.” The Jazz Band received an “Excellent” rating and the Best Rhythm Section and Best Trumpet Section awards. Symphonic Orchestra performed at the South Brunswick High School String Festival and received a Gold rating.

In May, the Vocal Ensemble performed in the New Jersey Middle School Choral Festival at Rowan University and received a rating of Superior. On May 29, the Choirs and Strings performed their Spring Concert to a standing-room only audience. 7th graders Danielle Montiero received the vocal scholarship and 7th grader Samantha Bramm received the string scholarship.

On June 1 - 2, we took 11 buses and an entourage of 520 students, teachers and chaperones to our annual junket to Hershey Park with the results las follows:
