2005 - 2006 South School Year In Review

In September, we welcomed Ms. Linda Cramer to our music department. We also welcomed 550 students into our instrumental music program. Music lessons and before school rehearsals were in full swing!

In December, music students performed their winter musical selections in two separate concerts for both the South Brunswick and Crossroads South communities. Sixth graders Gessica Charniga and Rebecca Shapiro and eighth grader Zach Sherman received the Westminster Conservatory of Music scholarships.

In January, three student teachers joined our Department: Andrew Lopez, Dan Martinho and Jasmine Bloch. The Jazz Band received the rating of “Superior” at the Nottingham High School Jazz Band Festival. Michael Martino was selected as outstanding soloist. Rebecca Ko and Brian Lee successfully auditioned for the Central Jersey Region II Orchestra.

February saw 1,655 pizza kits delivered to Crossroads South and a team of Music Parents distributed all of them to their rightful owners. Chris Rossi successfully auditioned for the Central Jersey Region II Jazz Band hosted by Crossroads South.

The production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying took place in March with an all middle school cast and pit orchestra. You had to see it to believe it! Also in March, the Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble performed in the Steinert Jazz Band Festival. The Jazz Ensemble received a rating of “Outstanding” and the Jazz Band received a “Superior” rating and received the Best Rhythm Section award.

In May, the Vocal Ensemble performed in the New Jersey Middle School Choral Festival at Rowan University. On May 30, the Vocal and String Programs presented their Spring Concert to a standing-room only audience. Sixth grader Caitlyn Borghi and seventh grader Howie Gordon received the Westminster Conservatory of Music scholarships.

In June, we took 11 buses and an entourage of 525 students, teachers and chaperones to our annual junket to Hershey Park with the results as follows:

* Concert Orchestra received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Middle School Division.
* Symphonic Orchestra received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Junior High Division.
* Jazz Ensemble received a SUPERIOR rating and 2nd place in the Middle School Division.
* Jazz Band received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Middle School Division.
* Concert Band received an EXCELLENT rating and 1st place in the Middle School Concert Band II Division.
* Symphonic Band received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Middle School Division.
* Wind Symphony received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Junior High Division.
* Treble Choir received an EXCELLENT rating and 1st Place in the Middle School Division.
* Concert Choir received an EXCELLENT rating and 1st Place in the Middle School Division.
* Vocal Ensemble received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st Place in the Junior High Division.
* Stephanie Cowan received the Outstanding Vocal Soloist Award.
* Penny Sun received the Outstanding Accompanist Award.
* The Crossroads Music Department received the Judge's Choice Award for Outstanding Groups for all of the performing categories: Choral, Jazz, Orchestral and Band.

Our ten performing groups were winners in every way!

And, on June 12, 2006, we presented our Annual Spring Concert!
