In December, music students performed their winter musical selections in two separate concerts for both the South Brunswick and Crossroads South communities. 6th grader Jessica Herskovitz and 7th graders James Ross and John Elliot received the Westminster Conservatory of Music scholarships.
In January, the Jazz Band received the rating of “Superior” at the Nottingham High School Jazz Band Festival as well as the Outstanding Trombone section award for the entire festival. James Ross was selected as outstanding soloist. Irene Lin successfully auditioned for the Central Jersey Region II Orchestra.
February saw 1,099 candles and 1,328 pizza kits delivered to Crossroads South and a team of Music Parents distributed all of them to their rightful owners. Matthew Cohen and Joe Myers successfully auditioned for the Central Jersey Region II Jazz Band conducted by Mr. John Ketterer.
The production of Guys and Dolls took place in March with an all middle school cast and pit orchestra. You had to see it to believe it! Also in March, the Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble performed in the Steinert Jazz Band Festival. The Jazz Ensemble received a rating of “Excellent” and the Jazz Band received an “Outstanding” rating and received the Best Sax Section award.
In May, the Vocal Ensemble performed in the New Jersey Middle School Choral Festival at Rowan University and we hosted the Central Jersey Middle School Concert Band Festival. In June, 350 students participated in our Choral/Jazz concert to a standing-room only audience. On June 4 – 5, we took 11 buses and an entourage of 500 students, teachers and chaperones to our annual junket to Hershey Park with the results as follows:
- Concert Orchestra received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Middle School Division
- Symphonic Orchestra received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Junior High Division.
- Jazz Ensemble received a SUPERIOR rating and 2nd place in the Middle School Division.
- Jazz Band received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Junior High Division.
- Rakesh Subramanian received the Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award.
- Concert Band received an EXCELLENT rating and 1st place in the Middle School Concert Band II Division.
- Symphonic Band received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Middle School Division.
- Wind Symphony received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st place in the Junior High Division.
- Treble Choir received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st Place in the Middle School Division.
- Concert Choir received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st Place in the Middle School Division.
- Vocal Ensemble received a SUPERIOR rating and 1st Place in the Junior High Division.
- Matthew Wolf received the Outstanding Vocal Soloist Award.
- Robert Kang received the Outstanding Accompanist Award.
- The Crossroads Music Department received the Outstanding Group awards for all performing categories: Choral, Jazz, Orchestral and Band.
And, on June 7, 2005, we present our Annual Spring Concert! Seventh grader Daria Gonzalez won the Westminster Conservatory of Music scholarship.
