Automated Telephone Dialer Service
SOUTH BRUNSWICK TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Wednesday, December 12, 2007
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The South Brunswick “Automated Telephone Dialer Service” is ready to go. This new automated approach will
enable us within minutes to alert families or their contact persons to changes in the regular school schedule due to
emergencies (such as an unplanned, emergency early release) or inclement weather.
If an inclement weather emergency arises in the next few days, we plan to activate the system. However, if the
weather conditions remain favorable, we will initiate a trial run of the system during the early evening hours on
Tuesday, December 18, 2007. While we will review reports each time the service has been activated, if you or
someone on your list of contacts does not receive a call, please contact your child’s school the next day.
Changes: From this point forward, if you need to make changes to your family’s Automated Dialer contact list, you
must call your child’s school and speak with the School Secretary who will make the requested changes. Please keep
this in mind during the school year so all telephone numbers remain up-to-date.
Contingency Plans: Because the time to design a plan is prior to any emergency, we trust that you have made an
emergency contingency plan for your children. This plan should be discussed with your children frequently. Should
the District need to close quickly and early, all students, but particularly our youngest, will need to know what to do
and where to go if no one is at home. (South Brunswick After-School Program subscribers: This program will
endeavor to remain open during any emergency early release. The program will not be open on days that schools
are closed. On delayed openings, the start of the program is similarly delayed. Any program site or time changes
that occur due to an emergency will be immediately communicated to the affected parents.)
Communication: Now is the time also to make sure that all of your contact people know that you have placed them
on the “call list” and are aware that they should let you know if/when they receive a call.
While we will continue to provide notification of emergency changes through the traditional ways such as the
District Web Site, Viking Television Network, and the radio, the Automated Telephone Dialer Service will be our
first means of communication. As such, we are hopeful that this new system will enhance the safety of children and
improve our ability to communicate between the home and school.
Sincerely,
