 IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

Entering a New Course – If a schedule change is approved, students may enter a new semester course within the first 2 weeks of the semester or may enter a new year-long course within the first 4 weeks of the school year. Students entering within this time frame are expected to make up any work deemed necessary by the teacher in a reasonable period of time.

Deadlines dates:

  • September 22, 2010 to enter first semester courses

  • February 12, 2011 to enter second semester courses

  • September 30, 2010 to make a course level change for full year courses

Dropping a Course- If a course is dropped after the deadline date, the course will appear on the student’s record and transcript and it will negatively affect the student’s GPA.

Deadline dates:

  • September 23, 2010 to drop first semester courses

  • February 22, 2011 to drop second semester courses

  • October 15, 2010 to drop full year courses

Changing a Course Level – If approved, students may switch to a different course level within the same discipline by the deadlines noted above for “dropping a course” with NO

indication of the transcript of the original course level. However, ALL grades from the original course will transfer with the student to the new class and be used as deemed appropriate by the teacher in computing quarterly and final grade averages.

* If a change of level occurs AFTER the deadlines, the consequences are substantial:

The original course will be included on the transcript with a grade of WP (Withdrawn Passing) or WF (Withdrawn Failing), whichever is representative of the student’s cumulative grade average in the class at the time of withdrawal. Just as with an F, both WP and WF have a negative impact on a student’s overall Grade Point Average, counting as credits attempted but no grade points earned.

The new course will also be included on the transcript.

The grades from the original course will transfer with the student to the new class and be used as deemed appropriate by the teacher in computing quarterly and final grade average.

The quarterly and final grades that will appear on the report card and the transcript will be determined solely on the work done in the new course level.

Center For Future Educators at The College of New Jersey -new web site

There is a new web site for the The Center for Future Educators (CFE) at The College of New Jersey.

The link is: www.tcnj.edu/futureeducators

CFE was established in 2010 to inspire, encourage, and recruit high school and middle school students who are considering teaching as a future career. CFE especially seeks future educators interested in teaching in high poverty and hard-to-staff schools and/or high shortage subject areas such as math, science, special education, world languages, technology, bilingual and ESL.

CFE believes that New Jersey's students are entitled to have the best, highly trained teachers to promote academic progress and social skill development.  CFE works collaboratively with New Jersey's high schools and middle schools, colleges and universities, corporate, governmental, and community agencies to develop and exemplary model of future teacher recruitment.

Naviance online college and career tracking program

SBHS Introduces Naviance - an online College and Career Research, Planning and Tracking program

Naviance is an interactive website that students, parents, guardians and counselors can use for college and career research and planning.

Students, parents and guardians can also communicate with their guidance counselors regarding college and career planning. Additionally, college information and post high school plans can be monitored, scholarship information can be accessed, and a calendar of colleges visiting the High School can be seen. Students can also view the status of their college transcript requests.

The current features of Naviance are of assistance primarily to members of the Junior and Senior Class. However, there are several features of the program that can assist Freshmen and Sophomores, including a personality self discovery assessment, tools to find and research careers of interest, and the opportunity to track extra-curricular activities for their resume.

Guidance has provided each student with a Registration Code which is used one time to set up your password protected Naviance account. Students and parents can link to Naviance directly from the Guidance website.
