Mr. Tim Matheney Principal 732.329.4044x5202 Mr. Tim Matheney, a native of northwestern Ohio, graduated from Princeton University (B.A. in History) and the University of Michigan (M.A. in Educational Administration and Policy). His career in education began at St. John's Jesuit High School in Toledo, Ohio, where he was a teacher and administrator for six years. Mr. Matheney taught a number of courses at the University of Michigan during graduate school and was a faculty member in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota for two years. Resuming his career in high schools in 2001, Mr. Matheney served as a dean and assistant principal in high schools in the Minneapolis area before becoming principal of SBHS in 2004. He considers school safety, character education, and school effectiveness among his professional interests. Outside of school, Mr. Matheney enjoys traveling, reading, and rooting for the Minnesota Twins. |

Mr. Peter Varela Assistant Principal for Academic Leadership 732.329.4044x5203 Mr. Peter Varela earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business economics from SUNY-Oneonta College. In addition, Mr. Varela holds master’s degrees in secondary education and educational administration and supervision from CUNY-Brooklyn College and Mercy College of New York. Mr. Varela is presently the Assistant Principal for Academic Leadership, after serving as the Assistant Principal for the Class of 2006 for two years. Before coming to South Brunswick, Mr. Varela was an Assistant Principal, supervisor, and a health and physical education teacher in the New York City public school system. When not at the high school, Mr. Varela enjoys playing golf, swimming and cooking. Mr. Varela looks forward to pursuing a doctorate in education at some point in his career. He lives in Monmouth County with his wife and two sons. |

Mrs. Patricia Abitabilo Assistant Principal Grade 12 732.329.4044x5235 Mrs. Patricia Abitabilo has earned a bachelor's degree in English and Latin from Montclair and a master's degree in reading from Rider University. Later she attended the College of New Jersey where she earned her second master's degree in educational administration. Since their freshman year at SBHS, she has been the assistant principal for the Class of 2008. Born and raised in Essex County, New Jersey she worked at Parsippany Hills High School and SBHS as an English teacher. In addition to her duties as an English teacher, she has also taught religion to second graders. Mrs. Abitabilo is especially interested in educational topics such as student achievement, teacher efficiency, culture and equity. She currently lives in Mercer County and enjoys gardening, going to hockey games, watching football (Go Eagles!) and doing home improvements. |

Mr. Leonard Santamaria Assistant Principal Grade 11 732.329.4044x5204 Mr. Santamaria earned his bachelor's degree in history education from The College of New Jersey. In addition, he holds a master's degree from Rider University in the area of educational administration and supervision. Currently the Assistant Principal for the Class of 2009, Mr. Santamaria was born in Trenton and worked in the Mercer County area where he taught various types of history at both the middle and high school levels. In addition to his teaching experience, he was also a Department Chairperson for history before coming to South Brunswick. Mr. Santamaria was first assigned as Assistant Principal at the Upper Elementary School, which is now Crossroads North. Mr. Santamaria's interests in education include new teacher induction, student achievement, and educational planning. He currently lives in Allentown, NJ with his wife and daughter. In his spare time Mr. Santamaria enjoys reading, gardening and - most of all - cooking. |

Mrs. Susana Nikitczuk Assistant Principal Grade 10 732.329.4044x5231 Mrs. Susana Nikitczuk earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Maryland. In addition, she holds master's degrees in education, bilingual education and education administration and supervision from Governors State University, Illinois and from the University of Phoenix. Mrs. Nikitczuk is currently the assistant principal for the Class of 2010. Before assuming her present position, she was the district World Languages supervisor. Prior to becoming a supervisor, she taught Spanish at North Brunswick High School. Mrs. Nikitczuk was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A resident of North Brunswick, Mrs. Nikitczuk enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her husband, her four children, family and friends. |

Mr. Scott Horowitz Assistant Principal Grade 9 732.329.4044x5209 Mr. Scott Horowitz earned a Bachelor's degree in English/Education from Kean University and a Master's Degree in Instruction and Curriculum from Kean University . Mr. Horowitz is presently the Assistant Principal for the class of 2011. He previously served as Assistant Athletics Director at the high school for the 2006-2007 school year. Before coming to South Brunswick, Mr. Horowitz was an English teacher, assistant football coach, and head boys track coach at South Plainfield High School for eight years. Outside of school, Mr. Horowitz enjoys playing golf, watching sporting events (Mets and Giants), and reading. He lives in Monroe Township with his wife and two children. Mr. Horowitz was born in Brooklyn, NY . After relocating to New Jersey, he attended the Old Bridge Township School District . |
