The James Kimple Center for Alternative Education The James Kimple Center for Alternative Education is a program designed for students who have experienced difficulty being successful in the traditional high school academic program. The program offers students the ability to work with teachers and their counselors to design an individualized program plan utilizing alternative options for meeting graduation requirements. Possibilities may include earning credits through proficiency based independent studies, regular course work, work study, and on-line courses. Students in the Kimple Center will still have access to resources in the main high school.

The James Kimple Center's mission is to provide an educational experience for students who are more likely to achieve academic success and reach their potential in a non-traditional small learning community. The program offers the required courses necessary for a South Brunswick High School diploma within a flexible environment. Located in an adjacent wing of South Brunswick High School, the Kimple Center is available to all SBHS sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Participation is voluntary and requires both parental approval and program acceptance. A request or recommendation to the program can be made by a student, staff member or parent/guardian. All referrals must initially be given to the student's guidance counselor or case manager to be reviewed.

Who Benefits From Alternative Education? Besides the traditional alternative school student descriptions listed above, other situations may arise in a student's high school career which may merit more flexible options.
