South Brunswick High School

South Brunswick High School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and as a Star School by the New Jersey State Department of Education.  The students of South Brunswick High School are afforded a rich and academically-challenging curriculum coupled with extensive opportunities in the fine and performing arts, athletics and extra-curricular activities.

Scores on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) indicate that South Brunswick High School students continue to out-perform both the State and National averages.  The combined math and critical reading mean score for the 2006-2007 school year was 1067, exceeding the State average by 50 points.

Advanced Placement (AP) assessments administered during the 2006-2007 school year continue to show growth and improvement.  The number of exams taken increased from 913 in 2005-2006 to 1037 in 2006-07.  Close to 70% of the students tested scored “three” or better.  In addition, on the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA), 96% of our juniors passed the Language Arts portion of the test and 85% achieved passing marks on the Math test.

Academic excellence is a hallmark of South Brunswick High School in other ways, as well.  The high school can list among its academic achievements for the 2006-2007 school year, the naming of 6 National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists, 29 National Merit commended students, and 1 National Achievement semi-finalist.  In addition, we look forward to a number of Bloustein Distinguished Scholars as the school year continues.

In the area of extra-curricular activities, South Brunswick High School offers dozens of clubs and organizations to tap every student’s interests.  In the performing arts, the Viking Marching Band is the highest scoring marching band in the region.  The Wind Ensemble and Concert Choir annually rank among the finest high school musical groups at regional and state competitions.  In addition, the Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform at the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2008.
