*****IMPORTANT PROJECT GRADUATION UPDATE*****

We are happy to advise that Project Graduation has received an overwhelming response. To date 425 of the 685 students in the Class of 2013 will be attending this event. The deadline has been extended to Friday, May 3rd to reserve your senior’s seat on the bus and participation in this exciting celebration event. Thank you to all who have volunteered to be chaperones or bus check in assistance. You will be contacted shortly with regard to this.

Project Graduation is an event that is held nationwide following high school graduation to provide graduating seniors an opportunity to celebrate their graduation with their peers in a safe, supervised, tobacco, substance and alcohol-free atmosphere. It began 32 years ago in Oxford Hills, Maine in response to 7 alcohol and other drug related deaths of teens in the graduation season of 1979. The event is organized and funded through the efforts of parents and is fully endorsed by the South Brunswick Board of Education. Project Graduation receives funding from the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse and the Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA).

To date PG has raised approximately $12,500 of the approximately $40,000 needed to support a FREE Graduation night event for the Class of 2013. Your support of our events and donations will help to make this celebration a safe, alcohol, tobacco and drug free event for the graduating class. This committee has worked tirelessly for months which made this a very difficult decision for the PTO Executive Board to make. The inability to raise funds through various channels and the current economic climate have made it necessary to regretfully inform the families of our seniors that there will be a $35 fee per student to attend Project Graduation this year. Please see attached letter to parents for more information. Click here for a copy of the Permission Slip.

Please be sure to complete the Permission Slip and send it along with a check or money order in the amount of $35 made payable to SBHS Project Graduation by April 25, 2013 to reserve your senior’s seat on the bus. Please note that if we do not have confirmation and payment for at least 250 students by April 25, the event will unfortunately be cancelled.

What is Project Graduation?

When is Project Graduation?
Project Graduation will be held this year on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 starting at 10:00pm and ending at 5:30am.

Where is the event?
Project Graduation is held at the Funplex, in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Bus transportation is provided to and from the high school. Students will board buses at SBHS around 10:00pm and return to SBHS at 5:30am where they will pick up their diplomas. The Funplex has a very large staff which is dedicated solely to South Brunswick High School Graduates. Our school has the whole facility to ourselves! Additionally 15-20 parents and teachers chaperone this event with police officers from Mt. Laurel & South Brunswick.

What happens at the Funplex?

The Funplex is a large facility with both indoor and outdoor activities. There will be laser tag, arcade games of all kinds, bumper boats, go-karts, tilt-a-whirl, mini golf, bumper cars, free fall ride, and unlimited food and drinks all night. There will also be an air brush tattoo artist and a 12 lane bowling facility.

How much does it cost to attend?
This year’s 2013 senior class is approximately 685 students. It takes a great deal of fundraising to keep this event going each year. Your help is needed. All parents are invited to get involved – not just senior parents. This event is currently FREE to all seniors, however the current cost to fund the event is almost $50,000! The success of this event is contingent upon the efforts of volunteers, parents and local community organizations that support major fundraising events and activities throughout the year.

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS UPDATE
To date PG has raised approximately $12,500 of the approximately $40,000 needed to support a FREE Graduation night event for the Class of 2013. Your support of our events and donations help to make this celebration a safe, alcohol, tobacco and drug free event for the graduating class.

As of March 31, 2013, the Committee has only been able to raise approximately one third of the necessary funds that would allow Project Graduation to remain free of charge. The inability to raise funds through various channels and the current economic climate have made it necessary to regretfully inform the families of our seniors that there will be a $35 fee per student to attend Project Graduation this year. Please see attached letter to parents for more information.
