What is the Viking Athletic Club?
Send in your membership form and join us at our monthly meetings. They are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm, in the first floor faculty lounge. An e-mail reminder is sent to all members. Why is it important to become a member? The club is a means in which parents can feel connected to the athletes and their families. With the continual growth of our community, there are over 600 athletes and 30 teams in the high school. Communication is vital in order to maintain the effectiveness of the organization and to provide our athletes with opportunities, which enhance their program. This includes providing an atmosphere for families to feel that they are an important part of the team, and can make a difference. Keeping informed by attending the meetings is an opportunity for you, to be a part of your athlete's life and also meet other parents at the same time. Meetings are held monthly and are open to everyone. PLEASE JOIN US AND REPRESENT YOUR CHILD'S TEAM! Remember this is your opportunity to be part of the SBHS Viking Family. Join us and make a difference for our athletes! TOO MANY HATS? WE NEED YOUR TALENTS/ NETWORKING Most of us are very busy and feel overwhelmed by the thought of being involved. You may feel very comfortable with helping out with your skills or ability to network. You can be an asset to the VAC, without feeling pressured by time restraints. By sharing your talents, connections and experience which you take for granted, you can be a great help to the club. It would be a relief to many of us who are very involved, and are overwhelmed with some of the talents that you possess and are comfortable with. For example: Connection with a company which can be a sponsor or donate prizes for the 5k run or golf outing, computer, data entry or website skills, fundraising, event planning , connections with any speakers (motivational, sports or education related) etc. Please e-mail the club or come to a meeting and share your talents or connections. Your help will make a difference for our athletes! SNACK SHACK The snack shack is open for sporting events throughout the year. The outdoor snack shack is open during all home football games and is operated by the band and athletes parents. Profits are split by both groups during the fall season. The Powder Puff Game, which is held the Friday night before Thanksgiving, the outdoor snack shack is open and manned by the Viking Athletic Club. (All profits go to the to club). During the winter season the indoor snack shack is open for all home basketball games, wrestling matches and any championship games. It is manned solely by the VAC volunteers, and all proceeds go to the club. During the spring season the outdoor snack shack is open for GMC or divisional track meets, and is also manned by the VAC volunteers. The majority of our funds come from the snack shack sales. It is of great importance to volunteer your time when your team is assigned. It is usually only two hours at a time and it is a great way to meet other parents and have fun at the same time. Each team is assigned a date and time to work in the snack shack. Please sign up at the Preseason Information Night. Team parents will be in contact with you for verification and as a reminder. Please volunteer and be part of the team! PROFITS BENEFIT OUR ATHLETES! What is a team parent and what are their responsibilities? All teams need to have a team parent in order to facilitate communication and also to coordinate volunteers. The team parent will be given the team's roster and the parent contact information forms, with phone #'s and e-mail addresses. Can an individual team request money or equipment from the VAC? A coach can request money for a team meal while a team is on an overnight trip, not to exceed $200. A request must be in writing sixty days in advance to the Athletic Director. A coach can request the club to purchase equipment which would be an enhancement to the athletic program, and not included in the budget. Can an individual team fundraise for a trip, etc.? Yes, but fundraising efforts are not to interfere or undermine the fundraising efforts of the VAC. Annual Golf Classic Our 2008 golf outing was a huge success and a great day! Thank you to all our sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for your support. The 2009 Golf Classic is scheduled for June, 2009 (TBA). If you have any contacts for sponsors or prizes, contact Karen Bertucci @ Karen.Bertucci@sbschools.orgViking Athletic Club Senior Banquet The annual senior banquet will be held on June 2, 2009. All senior varsity athletes are invited, free of charge. Parents are encouraged to attend and celebrate with the graduating seniors (a fee is charged). It is a wonderful evening of recognition for all of the graduating senior varsity athletes. They all receive a plaque from the club and a professional group picture is taken that night. The picture is distributed with their cap and gowns. The Viking Athletic Club Scholarships are announced at the dinner. |
