THE SBHS RENAISSANCE PROGRAM

Renaissance means rebirth, renewal, or revival. The Renaissance program appreciates, celebrates and rewards student achievement and character through the partnerships built among administrators, faculty, staff, parents and local businesses. It also recognizes teachers and staff in their efforts to assist us as a school community. To each student in SBHS, Renaissance provides the opportunity to renew his/her efforts to achieve academically, to attend school regularly, and to practice positive behavior and attitudes.

Renaissance Activities

Student Recognition

Students with a GPA of 3.00 or higher for a given quarter are rewarded with random prizes, including coupons for free or reduced items at local businesses, tickets to sporting events or other goodies. When available, random drawings of a select number of these students will be held to determine the winners.

Also, the faculty chooses one student from each grade level for a "Student of the Month" award from a host of nominations, where they receive a gift certificate and other prizes.  The nominations are based on the Character Education Values as set forth by the district:  Honesty, Respect, Kindness, Service and Responsibility.

Staff Appreciation

The Renaissance Committee recognizes the efforts of the entire staff in making our school successful. All members of the staff are provided a special annual token of appreciation. Administrators, teachers, counselors, custodians, secretaries and paraprofessionals are thanked during a special designated week. In addition, students vote monthly to determine a specific staff/faculty member who will receive a fabulous prize including a “Staff of the Month” parking spot in front of the school. There is also a staff-to-staff Golden Apple award, which is passed from one staff member to another at each faculty meeting as a way of recognizing that staff member’s hard work and dedication.

Custodian and Paraprofessional Appreciation

Each year, the student Renaissance committee and administrators honor our exceptional custodial and paraprofessional staff with a special themed luncheon or dinner organized by the students.

Who Makes Renaissance Work?

Ms. Pugner and Dr. DeBari are coordinating the Renaissance Program, but rely on the assistance of student committees to make it successful.

The Student Renaissance Committee

All students are welcome to join the committee, which is charged with building, organizing and implementing the activities and events that constitute our SBHS Renaissance Program. The committee continually works with the staff and community to expand activities and recognition.
