Research and writing skills are central components of the South Brunswick mission to ?. . . prepare students to be lifelong learners.? One of the ways we do that is through a research project that is a collaborative partnership between the Library/Media specialist and the classroom teacher. Teachers, in collaboration with the Media Specialist, are asked to plan research projects that are embedded into the curriculum where students can demonstrate elements of the research process.
New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Literacy
Section H - Inquiry and Research Cumulative Progress Indicators: Building upon knowledge and skills gained in preceding grades, fifth grade students will:
- Develop and revise questions for investigations prior to, during and after reading.
- Use multiple sources to locate information relevant to research questions.
- Draw conclusions from information gathered from multiple sources.
- Interpret and use graphic sources of information such as maps, graphs, timelines or tables to address research questions.
- Summarize and organize information by taking notes, outlining ideas, and/or making charts.
- Produce projects and reports, using visuals, media and/or technology to show learning and support the learning of an audience.
- Select books to fulfill one?s purposes.
