WELCOME TO MRS. MURPHY'S CLASS!

Our classroom is Room 304.  If you need to contact me you can email me at jamie.murphy@sbschools.org or leave a message on my voicemail at (732) 329-1043.
WHAT IS THIRD GRADE ALL ABOUT???

We will be doing so many great things here in third grade!  From exploring the moon, crayfish, and plants to learning about immigration...we will be very busy!  Get ready for cool math projects, writing workshop, great books and lots of fun this year!

IMPORTANT MESSAGES

We have been very busy in Room 304!  We are working hard during Reading and Writing Workshop.  Math is full of rounding numbers and basic math facts.  Remember to continue practicing them at home.  We are growing everyday! A big THANK YOU to all of our parent volunteers!  We enjoy having you in our classroom...thanks for your help!

Thank you for all of your help with decorating those writing notebooks!!!  They look awesome.  We had fun sharing them and telling some stories.  All of the children were very excited to show me what they had created.  I am very proud of them.

I sent home an Integrated Arts Schedule...make sure your kids are wearing sneakers on Days 4 and 5!  Library is on Day 3...bring those books back to school!

WHAT SUPPLIES WILL I NEED FOR THIRD GRADE?

3 marble composition notebooks (no spiral-bound)
                           3 folders with pockets
                           lots of pencils
                           2 dry erase markers
one sock (we will use these for our dry erase boards)
What's for Snack???

We will be having a working snack in the morning.  Please make sure that you send in a healthy snack with your child.  It is very important that they have something nutritious to eat.  We will be discussing what kinds of snacks are healthy and unhealthy in class.

Please remember that we have a peanut-free classroom!  Please make sure that you read all snack labels to ensure that your child's snack does not contain nuts.  It is surprising to see how many foods either contain traces of nuts or were manufactured in a factory that handles nuts.  We need to keep all of our children safe. Thank you for your help and support.

If you would like to donate snacks to our classroom, we would greatly appreciate it!  Thanks!

Want some wasy to help out with spelling????  Check these out!

Use your spelling sorts each week to learn your new patterns.
You can always keep your old sorts to practice at home!
Try these sorting games...

**Speed Sort: Sort your words as quickly as you can! You can also write the sorts down!

**Buddy Sort: Sort your spelling words with a partner and discuss the patterns!

Math Games Some of our favorites are...

Addition or Multiplication dice
Players will roll two or more dice and add or multiply the numbers as quickly as they can. The first person to add the numbers gets a point. The game will continue until the first person gets twenty points. You can differentiate this game by using higher number dice!

Addition or Mulitplication Snap
Players use a deck of cards to add or mulitiply numbers! The deck of cards should be split in half and players will place a card from their deck on the table. The first person to add the two numbers will get a point. The first person to get to twenty points wins the game!

Number Heads
You will need three players and a deck of cards to play this game. Two of the players will take one card from the deck, without looking, and hold in on their forehead. The other players should be able to see it. The third player will either add or mulitply the two numbers. The players have to discover the number they are holding on their head using the sum or product! Have fun with this one!!!
