This school based management group gives the entire school community a voice in making important decisions which directly affect the quality of education in our school. The School Site Council acts as a liaison between parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members. It consists of six parents, five teachers and two school administrators. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Some projects which have been developed by the Council are Author's Night, K-2 Bedtime Story Hour, and Math, Science, and Technology Night.

Principal’s report:

Updates on security and safety measures.
The perimeter of the building has been secured. Piano teachers in school in the evenings must sign in at the office and get a badge. They are then responsible for opening the doors for their students themselves. There will be fire drills twice per month. This week, the Fire Marshall came in and called for a drill. He tested our staff by pulling a child out of line to see if they would be missed. The child was missed, the marshall has never been able to stump our staff. There will be two lock down drills this year. One in the fall and one in the spring.

Halloween will have AM outside activities – Dance –a-thon – then back to class and the parade and parties in the afternoon. All parents are to report to the blacktop and only those assigned as room parents or helpers are to enter the building after the parade. ALL parents entering the building MUST sign in at the office.

Two babies were born this week: Mrs. Anzek welcomed Gabriel Joseph who weighed 6lbs 5 oz and Mrs. Gerdes became a grandmother for the first time welcoming Kia who weighed 7lbs 3oz.

The next EPIC Workshop will be held on Oct 19 “Communicating with your child’s teacher” The November workshop will be a Math Curriculum overview.

Bedtime Story Hour will be held on Oct 24 from 7-8 pm. This is a K-2 workshop – older siblings who are interested may also attend. There are 86 children currently signed up. We will have 14 readers. Adults are welcome to dress up as their favorite storybook character.

Committees are still forming for the following: Math/Science Showcase on Feb 15, Author’s Night on May 10. An e-mail will go out to see if there is any interest in a Parent Book Club surrounding the book “Homework Without Tears”.

Mrs. Sisko is again facilitating a 5th grade Mother Daughter Book Club. There are currently 15 girls signed up. The first meeting will be held on October 30.

Following our meeting, parents were welcomed to join the Math Workshop presented by Ms. Llanso and Mrs. Reisman.
