Board Report

The board reorganization took place with new members being added, the president confirmed.

The meeting was well attended by South Brunswick teachers who are still without a new contract (however still working). Negotiations are taking place with a mediator in efforts to resolve the pay dispute.

Nine exceeding students were recognized at the meeting and they gave presentations highlighting their favorite teachers and speaking candidly on them. The presentations were well received and seen as a credit to both the students and teachers of SB.

Principal’s Report

Mrs Holliday updated on the school’s recent events:

Overall awareness following the events at Newtown has been increased. The school is reassessing security measures. The township as a whole is seen as being ahead of the curve in being proactive and the teachers feel confident that security evaluations are part of current practices.  Key points highlighted by teachers and Mrs. Holliday were awareness, vigilance and collective accountability.

The PTO sponsored Spelling Bee took place on Monday 7th January with 224 students participating. So far ~ 55 students have qualified for the oral Bee. It was highlighted again that this is not part of the curriculum, it is optional and therefore results will not be reflected in the child’s assessment.

The Winter Concert, which will be performed by 4th and 5th grade students, is scheduled for 16th January with a 7pm start.

School is closed on the 21st January in observation of MLK day.

28th January will be an early release day with teachers undertaking training in the afternoon.

There will be no school assembly on January 11th because of buddy classes.

The first PTO assembly will take place on 18th January celebrating the History of Hip Hop Dancing and following your dreams.

The Friday folder this week will advertize that Flu is prevalent and that children require warm clothing as the winter season takes hold.

Math Science and Tech night is on hold due to the uncertainty of the teacher / board new contract discussion.
