School Site Council PTA meeting The Greenbrook School School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents and community members entrusted with the task of academic goal setting. This school based management group gives the entire school community a voice in making important decisions which directly affect the quality of education in our school. The School Site Council acts as a liaison between parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members. It consists of six parents, five teachers and two school administrators. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Some projects which have been developed by the Council are Author's Night, K-2 Bedtime Story Hour, and Math, Science, and Technology Night.

Board Report:

School Board member, Elizabeth Cho has completed her term on the board and has resigned her position.  Since the next election is not until November, the board has posted for potential candidates and they have received six applicants for the position.  On May 7th the applicants will be interviewed and a new board member will be chosen.

As budget chair Mr. Robinson has started contract negotiations and set up meetings with all bargaining units for May and June (if necessary).

The board had recognition evening where they congratulated coaches and individuals for dance, bowling and other sports.

The board received an update on the physical fitness and wellness program. Data has been collected for students 10+ years and parents will receive a fitness grant.

Principal’s Report:

Mrs. Holliday continued discussing the fitness tests as they apply to 3-5th grades. She also mentioned the nursing reports for students with asthma, diabetes and those who are seizure prone. Greenbrook currently has 51 students with asthma. Although they are all under control with medication the nurse creates a plan for each individual to minimize onsets.

School Calendar – extended Memorial Day Weekend, 25th, 28th and 29th May

5th Grade began NJ ASK this week and all is proceeding well.

3rd and 4th Grade will take NJ ASK the week of May 7th.

There will be no assembly on May 11th to accommodate testing.

Orientation for Kindergarten is on May 22nd; 55 students have registered to date;

There will be an early closing on May 24th for school planning.

The school will be holding evening concerts: May 24th – String, Recorder and Jazz Groups; June 7th – Bands and Choruses; May 16th – 3rd graders will be attending Peter and the Wolf in New Brunswick

Literacy Night:

The evening was a success, where the attendance was both young and old. At least 100 children were in attendance, as evidenced by the number who made the teacup crafts. Many wore costumes and pictures were taken with a plan to create an Animoto in the future for a school event. The other rooms were well attended. The committee felt the format went very well and should be applied next year, perhaps earlier to avoid conflicts with sporting activities (Baseball’s opening week).

Sudha, Lynn and Peter C. will be leaving the committee and suitable replacements are being sought – we thank them for their contributions to the committee.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday June 13th at Mrs. Holliday’s house.  Details to follow.

The meeting finished early at 7:25pm
