School Site Council PTA meeting The Greenbrook School School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents and community members entrusted with the task of academic goal setting. This school based management group gives the entire school community a voice in making important decisions which directly affect the quality of education in our school. The School Site Council acts as a liaison between parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members. It consists of six parents, five teachers and two school administrators. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Some projects which have been developed by the Council are Author's Night, K-2 Bedtime Story Hour, and Math, Science, and Technology Night.

Board Report

Mr. Robinson reported on the Boards examination of bullying reports as part of the district NJ legislature Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Policy. The findings were:

The High School choir sang a rendition of “Don’t Laugh at Me” that was very well received to tie in with the meeting’s theme.

Overall the district is considered to be doing very well with the policy. This is in spite of it being unfunded. The district considers this an important program and will continue to place a significant emphasis on it in the coming years.  Parents are encouraged to watch the replays of the board meetings on Comcast channel 28 or Fios channel 36.

The School election date is being proposed to change from April to November. This is in part to increase participation and that it will help with budgeting. 220 of ~500 districts have already moved to November elections.

The district is in the process of setting up a citizen’s advisory board to help with budgeting. People have applied online and will be selected based on the skills / knowledge they will bring to the board and its sub-committees.

Principals Report

Mrs. Holliday updated on the school’s recent events:

Report cards were sent out last Friday for grades K -2. These now include more details on absences. With two categories: excused absences & unexcused absences (this includes unexplained)

The Friday folder advertized teacher recognition award. Parents / pupils are being asked to submit letters of recommendation to Sue D. by Friday February 10th. A committee will then decide on the recipient teacher.

Pupils (K-3) will be attending a musical play at the High School along the theme of anti bullying. This play is called Sam and the Serpentine Snake and will be presented by the high school pupils.

Friday night (February 10th) is International Night at Greenbrook School. ~ 60 children will be performing.

Miss Sharon / Chartwells (school food catering company) have highlighted a mix up in the food delivery. For Tuesdays and Thursdays the turkey ham will actually be Ham for the Tuesday fun bag and the Thursday Hoagie Lunch. This is being advertised wherever possible to ensure children and parents are made aware of this.

The School assembly on January 27th with David Zucker (poet) was very well received.

The Spelling Bee was a great success and the winners will be notified this week. The top winners will be invited to an oral Spelling Bee on Thursday evening (February 16th), an event that parents can attend.

The playground drainage correction has been completed by the contractors. Some affected areas have been seeded with grass and a layer of hay put in place. Given the time of year the area is still very muddy and the students have to remain on the blacktop more often than not. The playground is operational and is inspected for use on a daily basis to ensure the children have safe “mud free” fun. It is hoped that Spring will allow the grass to grow and present the school with a mud free play environment.

Spring Literacy Event:

Mrs. Gildenberg will be organizing the event with committee volunteers including Sejal, Sudha, Heather and some staff members. It is scheduled for April 18th.  The event will be loosely based on Math, Science, Tech night with different events going on at various locations around the school. The idea is that children and parents will move around to the different events over the course of the evening. Event ideas currently include:  sign language, story telling, puppets and games.


Ms. Walko highlighted the success of the Geography Bee. She pointed out that Ritik A. won the contest and represented the school in a 60 minute written test recently. The paper was sent off for review and the school will be informed on whether he was in the top 100 for the state.
