School Site Council PTA meeting The Greenbrook School School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents and community members entrusted with the task of academic goal setting. This school based management group gives the entire school community a voice in making important decisions which directly affect the quality of education in our school. The School Site Council acts as a liaison between parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members. It consists of six parents, five teachers and two school administrators. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Some projects which have been developed by the Council are Author's Night, K-2 Bedtime Story Hour, and Math, Science, and Technology Night.

September 16, 2008 In attendance: Joanne D’Angelo, Ann Sisko, Matt Speesler, Sabuha Din, Judy Walters, Natalie Glass, Ellen Gordon, Linda Plante, Gwen Waxman, Myra Gildenberg, Pat Holliday, Susan Schatzman, Nancy Blanes, and Heather Delollis Fitzgerald

Susan and Nancy welcomed everyone.

We went around the room so everyone could introduce themselves.

Dr. Speesler updated the group on Board happenings and explained that he and Anna Tupe will be our representatives this year.

Pat commented that we had a good school opening. Then we talked about our current school goals as well as changes to the ASK score reporting system. Students now need fifty percent of their test points to pass the ASK exam. Because of changes, we won’t know until at least October how Greenbrook did overall or in any of the reporting subcategories.

Teachers will be reviewing our goals and the tools we’ll be using to meet those goals on the Early Release Day on September 25. Meanwhile, though, we discussed ways we could help the kids in our school. Some ideas included getting parents involved to help kids, transporting kids to before and after school academic enrichment programs, and searching for grant money.

This year, SSC will be running at least three family programs, which include the K-2 Family Read Aloud (October 23), Math, Science, and Technology Night (February 19), and Author’s Night (May 15). Volunteers are needed for all three evening programs.

We will be holding a Multiple Intelligences Workshop on October 21. Heather and Joanne will be running that workshop. Our School Site Council Meeting will be held at 6:45 to accommodate the program’s start time of 7:00.

Judy updated the group on The Instrument Bank. It’s getting publicity and receiving instruments. Three of the instruments donated in the last week have been to Greenbrook students.

Our next meeting will be on October 21 at 6:45.
