WELCOME!
4th Grade Math
9:30-10:30 AM
The students are practicing their multiplication facts using the Rocket Math program and the 100-yard dash. Although we have postponed working on our subtraction rocket, the students are still reviewing these facts on a weekly basis. The students are learning to multiply 3-digit and 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. We are also working on calculating the area and perimeter of different figures. Once the students have demonstrated an understanding of these concepts, we will be focusing on multiplying 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.
2nd Grade Reading and Writing
10:30-11:30 AM
One of the spelling groups is working on dividing multi-syllabic words and then spelling them. The other spelling group is working on spelling words with the welded sounds -am, -an and -all. The students will continue to read more challenging books and answer comprehension questions by using support from the story. We are also focusing on demonstrating comprehension by retelling the stories in a logical order with enough detail. The class has been introduced to the 4-square method to planning and writing. They will continue to use this graphic organizer to produce pieces of writing.
4th Grade Reading and Writing
1:00-2:00 PM
During spelling, the students are working on multi-syllabic words with different vowel sounds or one-syllable words with up to six sounds. In reading, the students will be doing a whole class activity. The children will be rehearsing strategies such as using context clues and reflecting on the text while reading an excerpt from Eve Bunting's book about orphan trains called, A Train to Somewhere. The students will be expected to employ their strategies before, during and after reading. After finishing the excerpt, the students will hear the entire story. Once we are done with the reading portion of the activity, the students will be composing expository paragraphs that contain a topic sentences and relevant details.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to working with your students! We are going to have a great year!
