Welcome to Mrs. Chesnovitz's Music Class

WELCOME TO MUSIC

If your child is a member of any of the bands or 5th grade chorus, I will be their director. This year I will be responsible for teaching recorder to Mrs. Shortreed's and Ms. Walko's classes. I also teach general music to all the third, fourth and fifth grade sudents.

We will be working from a 6 day schedule this year, which includes instrumental lessons and band.

Our 5th grade chorus will be singing and moving as soon as school begins. They will be preparing for a spectacular exhibition of their talents at the Winter Concert in January. This is also the year for the District Choral Festival. 5th grade students who have the desire and demonstrate gifted skills in choral music will have the opportunity to apply for attendance at the festival. And, as always, we will be singing "On the Ice" at a Trenton Devil's hockey game on January 24, 2009.

Our Recorder Ensemble begins the first full week of school. It is necessary that your child obtain a soprano recorder for their individual use during the year. Information about purchasing recorders wil be sent home by the second week of school. My recorder students will meet on Day 5. Please make sure your child is prepared and brings his/her equipment to school that day. The Recorder Ensemble performs at least twice a year.

Advanced Band is on Day 4 and will start the first full week of school, September 11, 2008. The Advanced Band will also be working toward the Winter Concert. It is IMPORTANT that the band members remember their instruments on lesson and band days. Members of the Advanced Band who have played for at least one full year are eligible to join the Jazz Band. Jazz Band will begin around the middle of November and will meet on Day 1 at 8:00 a.m..

Beginner Band will begin after the beginner band students are able to play at least 5 notes. Lessons will begin as soon as everyone has signed up and all the instruments have been delivered. Plan on lessons beginning the week of September 15, 2008. Please have your child signed up for lessons before September 10, 2008, so scheduling can be completed. It is IMPORTANT for the students to remember to practice regularly and to bring their instruments to lessons and band for a successful experience. Beginner Band is on Day 1. Look for it to begin around the middle of October. The Beginner Band will premier at our Winter Concert.

City Music Center will service all instruments rented from them at Greenbrook School. Accessories are also available and will be delivered directly to the school. Accessory forms are available in the music room. All reed players should have at least three good reeds available to use in their cases at all times. We will be learning about several composers, types of music , doing research projects and composing our own compositions this year in general music. We will be focusing on literacy through music and there very well might be some homework required. Ask your child about possible interactive music projects you can do with them this year.
