Ms. Westenburger's Message |
Janurary: Welcome Back and Happy New Year!
I hope everyone has had a restful break and is ready to have an awesome start to 2009!
In Reading we are working on Blooms Taxonomy and different levels of questions. We are working hard to make great predictions about all of our fiction books as well as finding support for our predictions. We have also learned a great way to summarize what we are reading using the “Somebody”, “Wanted”, “But” “So” method. It is a great way for us to find the “Big Idea” of a story or book. Once we have mastered both of these concepts we will be moving on to making great connections about our lives and the characters lives that we read about in our books. What a great way to help us comprehend what we are reading!
Multiplication! Multiplication! Multiplication! We have learned many great ways to multiply using arrays, array boards and the algorithm. We even know some great tricks to help us remember our facts. Please remember to practice your facts on a daily basis!
They’re slimy….they’re wiggly… and very interesting to learn about! Our new class pets are Red Wiggler’s and we are having a great time learning all about their purpose on this earth. Not only will we understand the habitat of a Red Wiggler, but we will also be learning about many other animal habitats, ecosystems and biomes of the world.
In Writing we are starting a new personal narrative story. We have been working really hard to use many of the writing crafts that we see other authors use in their stories. It is a great way to help our writing become even better! Remember to fill in those pickle jars!

Study Island |
| Study Island is a great way to extend student's learning into the home. All that's needed is a computer and internet connection. To use Study Island, log on to www.studyisland.com, and have your child enter their username and password. Make sure that your child uses pencil and paper when necessary. Study Island is also a great preparation tool for the NJ ASK exam in March. |
