Welcome to Second Grade!!

Welcome Second Graders and Families!

My name is Miss Courtney and I will be your child's second grade teacher. I am thrilled to be working with your child this year. Second grade will be full of laughter, learning, friendships, challenges, successes and other moments to remember.

Thank you to those families who attended our Back to School Night! I hope that you enjoyed learning about what is to come in Second Grade! Below is a link to the Greenbrook School Lunch menu. This way, your child has an idea of what their options are for lunch! You may even want to hang it on the fridge!

Class Donations

Please consider donating the items below for our class, it is greatly appreciated:

baby wipes

ziploc bags (large or small)

twistable colored pencils

Contacting Me

The best way to reach me is through my email to email me at jessica.courtney@sbschools.org. If you have not received an email from me already, please send me your email address! Thank you!

Just a reminder to please send in a healthy snack each day such as vegetables, fruit, yogurt, cheese sticks or pretzels. Due to allergies, we have a NUT FREE room. I am asking for your cooperation in that you refrain from sending in snacks that have nuts. We will be focusing on nutrition and what constitutes a healthy snack throughout the year and it would be great to start the year off with some healthy habits!

During the school year I will send out nightly emails that contain information regarding your child's school day, daily homework, long term assignments, upcoming events and reminders. Your child will have homework every night (Monday through Thursday). Reading for 10-15 minutes is required each night. I will also send home word study, math and additional items at various times. Homework should be practice and feel “easy” to your child and it should not take longer than 20 minutes. I will talk more about this at Back to School night.

I will frequently send home a Scholastic Book Club flyer. It is not mandatory for you to purchase books at any time, but it is an excellent opportunity for you to buy books at a great price for your child. Also, our class is rewarded with books and other classroom materials when items are purchased using our class account. You may choose to fill out the order form on the back of the flyer and send it in an envelope with a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs or you may order books from our online class account. To get to our class account please use the URL below:

Birthdays are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s special day. You are welcome to send in a small snack for your child’s special treat. This is not mandatory for birthdays. We will also sing and take a few minutes to recognize this special day. If you do choose to send in a birthday snack, please notify me a few days ahead of time so I can plan for it and we can agree on a good time. If your child’s birthday is in the summer, you may choose to celebrate it at the end of the year OR at the “half-birthday” mark. When sending in a birthday snack, please try to avoid any food items that have nuts. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Captain of the Week

Each child will have a week to be the Captain of the Week. Your child will be given a poster to complete in advance of their week. On the Monday of their week, they will present their poster to the class during Morning Meeting. I will have a sign-up sheet available at Back to School Night so that you (the parents) may choose a week that coincides with special days ( ie: birthdays) or avoids family scheduling conflicts.
