First Grade Reading Strategies
  • Stop! Think. Reread.
  • Look at the picture and the first letter.
  • Say the first sound of the word, continue to read the rest of the sentence and then come back.
  • Tap the sounds or groups of sounds in the word.
  • Look for little words inside the big word.
  • Guess a word and think:
               -Does it look right?
               -Does it sound right?
               -Does it make sense?
