Genre Focus: Historical Fiction, Biography, Everyday Text, Folk Tales, Fiction, Poetry, Tall Tales and Legends
Balanced Program: Whole Class Novel Study, Independent Comparison Novels, Literature Circles, Read Alouds and Sustained Silent Reading
Students will be able to:

Writing
The students think of themselves as authors, engage in a wide variety of writing experiences, participate in peer editing, and engage in timed writing experiences.
Students will be able to:
Compose in the following genres-expository, descriptive, narrative, poetic, reflective, and persuasive.
Use the writing rubric
Incorporate various writing skills such as transitional words, use of effective word choice, and the show, don’t tell technique into their writing
Recognize parts of speech and apply punctuation and capitalization rules
Use correct form in writing cursive
