The Accelerated Reader Program started for the 2nd graders on December 4th. An orientation to the program was provided to the students and parent volunteers at the end of November. Accelerated Reader is a reading program that provides computerized tests for AR designated books. Students read a book and then answer test questions based on the book they have read. For easy identification, every library book that is part of the program has a yellow sticker on the spine.
Special library times are set aside for computer use to take Accelerated Reader tests. Parent volunteers assist 2nd graders in logging in and locating the correct test.
The Accelerated Reader Program gives students immediate feedback on how well they have done and which questions were answered incorrectly. In addition, teachers get weekly cumulative feedback on the students who have taken tests.
The Children's Department of the South Brunswick Public Library has a list of all our Accelerated Reader book titles. Students are not limited to using the school library to select titles.
