Developmental Assets are positive experiences and personal qualities that are the building blocks of healthy development. Research indicates that the more assets young people have, the more likely they will make positive choices and are less likely to engage in risky, dangerous behavior (Search Institute, Minneapolis, MN. www.search-institute.org.)
The HCHY Assets Initiative promotes the philosophy of building on the strengths and talents of youth, rather than focusing on problems. Community members can learn more about asset building with the youth in their lives through trainings and materials provided by the HCHY Assets Initiative.
The HCHY Assets Initiative is under the auspices of the South Brunswick Health Department and funded by the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse, as part of a grant from GCADA, the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.
