Graduation Requirements
Credits: While the State mandates 120 credits for high school graduation, South Brunswick High School students must successfully earn 125 credits including the following required courses:
Assessments: NJ mandates all high school students pass the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) in Language Arts Literacy and Mathematics in order to receive a standard New Jersey High School diploma. If a student does not pass HSPA in junior year, then the HSPA must be taken again during senior year. In addition, the student must take an Alternative High School Assessment (AHSA) class during senior year and must demonstrate proficiency through the AHSA process and tests.
The State also mandates that an "end-of-course" assessment be taken in the area of Biology. In addition, all students taking Senior Health must complete the 12th Grade Research Task in which students select a critical health issue, conduct research and compose an advocacy paper in which they take a stance and support their position.
Note - Assessments and credit requirements are updated annually based on changes at the State level and District policy.
