2013-2014 Budget Information School Board and Budget Election Changes At their regularly scheduled meeting of February 6, 2012, the South Brunswick Board of Education approved unanimously a resolution that moves the school board elections from April to the General Election in November. At the same time, the Board approved unanimously a resolution eliminating the annual voter referendum on the proposed general fund tax levy as long as the 2% tax cap is not exceeded.

Members of the school board whose terms would have expired after the April 2013 election will continue to serve until the board’s organization meeting, which will be held the first week in January 2014.

Unlike the April election, the school board will not incur base costs for the payment of any inherent costs of the election when combined with the General Election in November. According to the new legislation, the school district and the county board of elections will agree that any increase in the costs, charges, and expenses that may be associated with holding the school election simultaneously with the general election will be paid by the school district. Guidelines will be established by the Secretary of State.

Candidates running for the school board in a November election have to file their nominating petitions by the date of the June primary election. In 2013, the date is June 4. They can withdraw from the election up until September 6, 2013. The filing officer for November school elections is the county clerk. The hours for the November election are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Public Budget Meetings The South Brunswick Board of Education will hold two public budget meetings (dates to be determined) to introduce the District's proposed spending plan for 2013-2014. Members from the public are encouraged to attend those meetings.
