Gifted and Talented

As a District, we believe many of our children possess special talents and gifts. Through comprehensive K-12 Gifted and Talented services, it is our professional responsibility to recognize and nurture those talents as they emerge as unobtrusively as possible, with no burden to the child.

We look to develop the whole child by offering an overall enriching environment that enhances the child's development on a daily basis in a natural school setting, as well as by offering experiences beyond the regular class. All of our Gifted and Talented enrichment strategies and program offerings are centered around the Multiple Intelligences, as we believe all children possess varying strengths and talents.

The South Brunswick School District Gifted and Talented Services are centered on a three-tiered approach to afford flexibility to meet the varying needs, abilities and interests of students. Tier I includes enrichment within the regular classroom, Tier II includes enrichment beyond the regular classroom, and Tier III includes advancement and/or acceleration above the grade level.

Throughout these areas of focus, students are identified and encouraged to explore issues of diversity, community and the world around them in an ongoing and flexible manner. South Brunswick School District is committed to having equal access for all children to gifted and talented services. In an effort to “label the program and not the child,” at no time will a child receive the title gifted and talented, as it burdens the child both emotionally and socially.
