Being a Parent Isn't Easy
EPIC offers discussion group workshops throughout the school year that focus on positive parenting skills such as: discipline, helping your child succeed in school, fostering self-esteem, coping with stress and frustration and conflict resolution, to name a few. Workshops are typically held in a series of four evenings and groups are divided by a student's age. Workshops are free and childcare is provided at no cost. Sessions are located at various locations throughout the District and are publicized through the schools, as well as local media. Facilitators of the workshops are trained parent volunteers from the community.
In addition, we have recently begun an online EPIC library of parenting information from The Parent Institute. The Parent Institute identified several key issues that are important to children's success in school and at home: responsibility, discipline, reading, learning secrets, homework, TV, bullies, peer pressure and many more! Then, with the help of the best experts and the latest research information, they have summarized it all into bite-sized, useful ideas parents can put into action immediately to help their children, from the elementary through teenage years. All of the Parent Guides are written with today's parent in mind. They are 8 to 12 pages each; brief enough for busy parents to read, thorough enough to provide substantive, research-based help, and prepared by the editors at The Parent Institute so you have confidence in what you are being told. You can access the library by clicking on the link below.
If you are interested in EPIC workshops, either as a participant or facilitator, or for additional information, contact EPIC Coordinator Christine Mariano at (732) 297-7800, 73009 or via E-mail at EPIC@sbschools.org.
