Healthy Communities Healthy Youth
South Brunswick Healthy Communities - Healthy Youth Assets Initiative The mission of the South Brunswick Healthy Communities - Healthy Youth Assets Initiative is for the entire community join together to nurture competent, caring and responsible youth. This can be accomplished by all members of the community building developmental assets through their interactions with children and adolescents.

Developmental Assets are positive experiences and personal qualities that are the building blocks of healthy development. Research indicates that the more assets young people have, the more likely they will make positive choices and are less likely to engage in risky, dangerous behavior (Search Institute, Minneapolis, MN. www.search-institute.org.)

The HCHY Assets Initiative promotes the philosophy of building on the strengths and talents of youth, rather than focusing on problems. Community members can learn more about asset building with the youth in their lives through trainings and materials provided by the HCHY Assets Initiative.

The HCHY Assets Initiative is under the auspices of the South Brunswick Health Department and funded by the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse. For more information, please contact Sue Nissenblatt at (732)329-4000, ext. 7237 or E-mail healthyyouthassets@sbtnj.net.

Mini-Grant Opportunity

The South Brunswick Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth Assets Initiative announces the availability of mini-grants of up to $250.00 to school and community groups for asset building activities.  Developmental Assets are opportunities, experiences and supports that are the building blocks of healthy development.

Your organization may already be building assets for youth. Asset-building activities nurture positive relationships between adults and youth. These positive relationships build on the strengths and talents of young people rather than focusing on problems.

The goal of the mini grant is to expand or develop activities that build assets for youth. The HCHY Assets Initiative is under the auspices of the South Brunswick Health Department, and is funded by the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse.
