About the Community South Brunswick Township is a large, rural-residential community encompassing nearly 42-square miles in southern Middlesex County. The township is one of the fastest growing communities in central New Jersey and is located between New York City and Philadelphia, making it an attractive area for families to relocate.

The township is situated in north central New Jersey almost equidistant between the New York and Philadelphia urban centers. It is bounded on the north and northeast by North Brunswick and East Brunswick and on the east by Monroe, on the south by Cranbury (easterly) and Plainsboro (westerly). Princeton Township (Mercer County) borders its southwestern tip and Franklin Township (Somerset County) lies to the west and northwest.

Bounding the township on the west, along the Somerset County line is Route 27, an arterial roadway which also services the primary shopping and commercial centers of the township. Further east, a major high-volume highway, US Route 1, runs through the township in a generally north/south direction (northeast-southwesterly) and effectively portions the community into its two major segments. Route 1 has also become a shopping and commercial center

The eastern segment of the township is bisected by US Route 130 in a northwest-southeasterly direction, and the New Jersey Turnpike (north/south) passes through the extreme eastern corner of the township but without intersecting any local roads; turnpike access lies just beyond the township's eastern border. Over the past 25 years, the township population has grown by more than 15,000 residents. Today, over 40,000 residents call South Brunswick their home.

As the township continues to grow, the School District is experiencing a similar trend. In 1991, the District's enrollment was just under 4,000 students.

At the start of the 2007-2008 school year, more than 9,000 students are expected to be enrolled in the District's ten school communities, including seven elementary schools for students in Grades K-5, a two-campus middle school for students in Grades 6-8 and a high school for students attending Grades 9-12.

Although the District has grown in size, it has maintained its status as one of the finest public school systems in New Jersey. It is recognized for its superior and innovative academic programs, dedicated and talented teaching staff, extensive co-curricular and athletic programs and support services for students and their families.
