Dr. Gary P. McCartney
Interim Superintendent of Schools

Returning to South Brunswick as Interim Superintendent, Dr. McCartney previously served the District as Superintendent from 2004 through 2014. A former classroom teacher, building administrator and assistant superintendent, Gary McCartney is beginning his 29th year as a public school superintendent. Most recently, he served the Atlantic City School District as the Governor’s state-appointed Fiscal Monitor.

Dr. McCartney earned both his Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree from Temple University in Educational Administration. He received his Baccalaureate Degree at Millersville University. During his forty-plus year career, he has been recognized as the Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year, received the New Jersey Distinguished Service Award from NJASA and was selected by the University Council for Educational Administration for its Excellence in Educational Leadership Award.

His commitment to the profession has included serving as President of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA) as well as President of the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA). Dr. McCartney’s more than a decade of commitment to the Middle States Association includes chairing the Board of Trustees and serving as a Commissioner for the Elementary Commission. With a true love for teaching, he has worked as an adjunct professor at Temple, Wilkes, Penn State and Lehigh University as well as the University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Joanne Kerekes
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Joanne Kerekes has been a member of the South Brunswick School District since 1990. Ms. Kerekes attended Rider College where she did her undergraduate work in elementary education and Rutgers University where she completed her graduate work in educational administration and supervision.

Prior to coming to South Brunswick, Ms. Kerekes worked as a teacher, unit leader and project specialist in the East Windsor School District.

In South Brunswick, Ms. Kerekes first served as the Staff Developer. In this role, she worked with all of the district schools and in all curricular and programmatic areas. She was able to gain a system perspective and a deep appreciation for the district as a whole.

Ms. Kerekes then spent the next dozen years as principal of several wonderful district schools, going from the smallest in the district to one of the largest: Dayton-Deans Elementary, Monmouth Junction Elementary, South Brunswick Upper Elementary and finally, Crossroads North Middle School.

In 2004 Ms. Kerekes became the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. She oversees the curriculum revision cycle, the supervisory process, technology, assessment, and professional development.

Mr. Thaddeus Thompson
School Business Administrator/Board Secretary

Thaddeus Thompson comes to South Brunswick with twelve years of experience within the school environment. He is conscious of financial needs and changes in this environment. A transformational leader who models effective strategies to build relational trust within all departments of a district. A financial professional with integrity, sound analytical skills, and proven abilities to reduce expenses and increase revenues.

Prior to coming to South Brunswick Mr. Thompson worked in Queen City Academy Charter School for three years as Business Administrator: six years in East Windsor Regional School District as an Assistant Business Administrator and two years as Business Administrator. He also served as Business Administrator in the Lakewood School District before joining South Brunswick on July 1, 2016.

Mr. Thompson graduated from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. He is a certified as a New Jersey School Business Administrator and Qualified Purchasing Agent.
