Dr. Gary P. McCartney, Ed. D.

Gary P. McCartney has been in the field of education for more than 35 years and has served as Superintendent of South Brunswick Public Schools since March 2004. He is a true advocate for the achievement of all students, in all areas of their development.
Dr. McCartney attended Millersville State University, where he performed his undergraduate studies, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education in Earth Science, Geography and General Science. Dr. McCartney received his Graduate Degree in Education from Temple University and his Doctorate Degree in Education Administration from Temple University.
Prior to joining South Brunswick, Dr. McCartney served as Superintendent of Parkland School District, located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a position he held for 12 years. During that time, Dr. McCartney was named Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year for 2002-2003.
He also served as Superintendent of Fleetwood Area School District, located in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania (1986-1992) and Assistant Superintendent of Warwick School District, located in Lititz, Pennsylvania (1981-1986).
In addition, Dr. McCartney shared his teaching and administrative experiences through his adjunct professorships at Wilkes University and Lehigh University, both in Pennsylvania.
During the 2004-2005 school year, Dr. McCartney served as a representative to the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA) Legislative Committee. In addition to his other duties, Dr. McCartney serves as a member of the District's Safe and Caring Committee and the South Brunswick Township Community Resource Team.
Ms. Joanne Kerekes
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Joanne Kerekes has been a member of the South Brunswick School District since 1990. Ms. Kerekes attended Rider College where she did her undergraduate work in elementary education and Rutgers University where she completed her graduate work in educational administration and supervision.
Prior to coming to South Brunswick, Ms. Kerekes worked as a teacher, unit leader and project specialist in the East Windsor School District.
In South Brunswick, Ms. Kerekes first served as the Staff Developer. In this role, she worked with all of the district schools and in all curricular and programmatic areas. She was able to gain a system perspective and a deep appreciation for the district as a whole.
Ms. Kerekes then spent the next dozen years as principal of several wonderful district schools, going from the smallest in the district to one of the largest: Dayton-Deans Elementary, Monmouth Junction Elementary, South Brunswick Upper Elementary and finally, Crossroads North Middle School.
Ms. Kerekes is now entering her seventh year as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. She oversees the curriculum revision cycle, the supervisory process, technology, assessment, and professional development.

School Business Administrator/Board Secretary

Anthony Tonzini began his tenure with the South Brunswick School District in January 2006. Prior to joining the South Brunswick Schools, he spent more than six years in the Freehold Borough Public Schools as the School Business Administrator/Board Secretary.
He also served in the neighboring Monroe Township Schools as the Assistant to the School Business Administrator from 1993 until 2000.
Mr. Tonzini attended Monmouth University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1987. While working for the State of New Jersey as an accountant he successfully completed the testing requirements to obtain his license as a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Tonzini received his Graduate Degree in Educational Administration from Rider University and likewise completed the necessary coursework to obtain certification as a New Jersey School Business Administrator.
Mr. Tonzini has served on the State Accounting Committee and has been a presenter before various County Associations and at the State conference on topics related to public school accounting.
